The Authority - SACE Board of South Australia The S•A•M program is administered by SACE Board of South Australia, an independent statutory authority of the South Australian Government. Previously known as the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA), the SACE Board has sole legislative responsibility for curriculum development, assessment, accreditation, reporting, and certification for the final two years of secondary education in all schools in South Australia, both government and non-government. The S•A•M began in 1982 under its predecessor, the Public Examinations Board of South Australia. The Board has representation from South Australian universities. All Australian States have similar boards with responsibilities for the conduct of examinations for students in the final two years of secondary schooling. All certificates are recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Members of the Board include representatives from the university sector, the school sector, the vocational education and training sector, parent associations, employers, unions and the Commissioner for Equal Opportunity. A full time staff of approximately eighty helps schools and teachers to implement the Board’s curriculum and assessment policies. The SACE Board also engages more than 2000 people at various times during the year as members of subject advisory committees and as examiners, moderators, and markers.
